SanDisk Sansa Clip 1 GB MP3 Player (Black)In association with Amazon.comRating: -
I received the SanDisk Sansa no problem; it was my first mp3 player but I am a competent computer user and familiar with peripherals. I immediately noticed two problems:
1) The heaphone jack did not produce sound when inserted. It only played when halfway-inserted - very wobbly. Obvious hardware fault.
2) The one mp3 I loaded on to it SKIPPED when it played. I have no idea why. It wasn't large, but it was independent of the poor headphone connection.
I have returned it for a refund and will purchase another, trying to give this thing a chance.
If there's anything wrong with it, though, expect a scathing update.
UPDATE:
OKAY, here's the deal. You have to push it in WAY harder than you would reasonably be expected to push. Don't worry. It does work. It's just very hard to push it in (it clicks!) initially.
I'm still leaving this three stars because the first one I got skipped, and because it still seems like poor product design to have the jack that hard.
NOTE: to everyone complaining about that music service, you really don't have to install it. Just use the drive like a flash drive. Throw your music into one of the folders and it will automatically read.

...That is what they should rename the Sansa: "A great alternative for those who can't afford an Ipod," because that is what it really is.
It's so easy to upload music onto the device. Simply plug it into a USB outlet and drag music into it.
The device is pretty small so it may get easily lost, it's a little bigger than the size of a quarter. Some interesting features are a sleep mode and it even records audio.
The only complaint that I have is the headphones. They are simply not comfortable, and will fall out instantly if you plan on working out or running listening to your sansa.
PROS:
+ decent battery life (several hours)
+ very easy to upload music
+ simple
+ small, uncombersome
+ sleep mode, fm radio, audio record
CONS:
- horrible headphones
- because of its size, it can be easy to lose or crushed

This is an amazing small product.
Best features for me are
* it works with MSC mode (no need for Windows Media Player)
* it remembers where you were in the middle of any number of tracks (very useful for books/podcasts)
* it has an intelligent fast forward/fast reverse feature (also very convenient for books/podcasts)
* very small
* very light
* decent navigation
* long battery life.

My son purchased the Sansa 1G MP3 about 2 years ago. It has traveled many miles with him. It has survived the typical 11 year old boys life at home, through chores, vacations, summer vacation, and even made it through a bookbag & locker most days of the school year. I am most surprised about the tiny device's trip through the washing machine! It is still working! This MP3 is very durable! It was very easy to use. One gig seemed small, but he always has "favorites" and so far, space has not been an issue. He can easily transfer songs on and off with the computer, as needed.

Good things sometimes come in small packages. When I purchased this MP3 player as part of my outdoor equipment setup, I did so with the thought that, if it failed to perform, it hadn't cost me too much, and I could go out and purchase a better one.
There turned out to be no such need. This little thing puts out tremendous sound for its size, and the quality is exceptional. The guests at my last wedding kept commenting on the sound quality from such a small device, and I had to agree.
I wholeheartedly recommend this product to anyone for both personal and professional use.
